@countrylivingcanines: SCENT PRACTICE: Coco and Leo taught us that they were interested in scent tracking. We were hesitant to walk into the wooded/area outside of our fenced in compound because of the wildlife. Our dogs showed us that they track scents by going out in the woods and familiarizing themselves with scents. One day I was walking and outta nowhere leo smelled coyotes probably 50 feet away darted away from me to chase them. I realized he could do that because he’s been smelling their droppings for months. After that experience I learned that it’s important to explore the entire property. Take your dogs near where you know there’s droppings and tell them to go find it. Once they lock in on the droppings I know if a threat is near they will know what to do. Might sound complicated if you’ve never experienced this. #fyp #hunt #canecorso #belgianmalinois #DogTraining
my Corso/Rott loves scent work. I did it for fun when she was hitting witching hour as a puppy. so the first time we went camping in a state park. fast forward she is 1 and my nephew went for a walk and got lost after walking for 45 minutes. no cell service and half hour till dark. my son the dog and I set out to find him. I had no idea besides yelling to find him.so half joking I took his hoodie and had the dog sniff it and said "find it". she immediately put her nose to the ground and air.and directly walked to him.never lost the scent.i was flabbergasted that she did it.
