@cecilia.mumtrepreneur: I told my boss I had to stay home. My daughter had chickenpox so bad she’d already been to A&E twice. She looked at me like I was an inconvenience and said: “Sorry, it’s just not a good week for that. You’ll have to find someone else to watch her.” As if I’d asked for a spa day… not to care for my sick child. That moment broke something in me. Because I realised I was never going to be free in that job. Not really. Not even to be a present mum when it mattered most. For years, I thought I was lucky just to have a paycheck. Now I know: true freedom is being the one who decides. I work for myself now. I decide when I work. If my kids need me, there’s no permission slip required.
