I took a different route with mine. I started teaching them about internet safety from a very young age and it continues to this day. I allowed them to have their phones from secondary school with regular monitoring but by year 9 I stopped monitoring and trusted them to be safe and for them to come to me when they need me. Alhamdulillah worked really well for all 3 and my youngest is in year 11 (15 yo) currently. I think one of the worst things as parent is have the mentality of I did ok in my time so I will treat mine that way. Times are VERY different and we need to parent in the times we live in currently. Granted it is hard cos we don’t know what it is like for them but as a parent we need to make the conscious decision of learning. So many free parent sessions available and I took full advantage of them in my time. It is ok not know but it is NOT ok to refuse to learn.

I said no smart phone untill end of year 11!!! End of. Let them dislike me for it. Let them be uoset angry with me. But i know what im doing. I know things they don't. They will thank me later. And if they don't thats fine too.

Im same my son in year 7 my daughter is going secondary in September I haven’t given them a phone…..yet I don’t plan on giving one anytime soon but it will be a phone to just let me know they are ok when out I won’t allow them on phones with social media etc till they are old enough Insha’Allah also my kids say its not fair but they do also understand why I am not giving one ❤
