I wish Deaf had far more agency than we do. I dream of agencies contacting Deaf clients directly to learn about their communication needs before hand. I wish for transparency of available interpreters on their websites, with experiences and specialties listed and 2 minutes signed intros. Imagine getting a link and Deaf having the ability to choose their interpreter and communicate directly through the agency webmail. Imagine that we could leave feedback and reviews after the fact. I have so many ideas based on my past experiences as a Deaf client.

Had one agency send me, alone, to interpret a HEAVY 3 hour meeting. They lied and told me it was only 2 hrs and client wasnt very involved. They were wrong. They KNEW the meeting was going to be more than 2 hrs. I interpreted that and then sent a very strongly worded message on my invoice. 3 hrs straight interpreting and only one newbie terp sent, not ok! I stopped taking many jobs from them after that, even though they paid the highest rate of any of the agencies.

👀 I’m deaf, but I watched this whole video, and wow! It really made me reflect on what’s happening with that agency. I’m planning to start my own interpreting agency sometime this year or next, and I never want people to experience something like this. I’m so sorry you went through it. Thank you for sharing your story …it helped me see things more clearly.

it’s so nice seeing you share this experience because it shows how much heart you have And at the same time you were also trying to be professional. I’ve been in the situations explaining I’m not a good fit, but they insisted and I apologize to the consumers, so the understood that the agency is putting me in this position and I don’t want to leave the consumer without any access. It’s really hard for us and these situations and all we can do is advocate after and share our experiences. By the way you are an amazing Interpreter. I love watching you in your stories.🤟🏽

I just realised why I really love your video format. they're made for the deaf community and made accessible for the hearing. I love how you make the videos in just sign language, and then add the voiced and written interpretations. I can hear but have APD, I don't understand sign language yet. It makes me really understand the other side of accessibility and how crucial it is. without the subtitles, I'd be needing to use so much more energy to understand just a few words. thank you. ❤️it's helping me learn the actual grammar and intonation of sign language.

Thank you for sharing this. Assignments should always align with an interpreter’s skillset, especially in medical environments where safety matters.
At Lagundo ASL Services, we believe preparation, proper placement, and interpreter support are non-negotiable. Interpreters deserve to feel confident walking into every assignment, and consumers deserve communication they can trust.
Posts like this help move our field forward. Appreciate you raising the standard. 🤟🏽
