@vegasstarfish: How to tip the front desk to recieve a room upgrade & why using the Las Vegas “sandwich trick” of hiding a $20 between your credit card and ID is outdated and unnecessary. Ask for what you want if you have something specific in mine, be kind, patient, polite & use these tips to increase your chances of an improved, nicer hotel room. #vegas #lasvegas #vegasstarfish #hotel #travel
Time is money and you will save so much time by using mobile check in. Check in lines in Vegas can be HOURS long at some resorts. If you have to choose between a long shot upgrade and a mobile checkin, always mobile check in. ❤️

I remember we checked into the bellagio on an EXTREMELY busy Sunday afternoon and leaving tuesday. customers were super rude and the line was long. when we finally got the front desk, I smiled at the harried agent and basically said "sorry you're all dealing with this, it must suck. we're not in a rush at all, take all the time you need as we're on a road trip, no worries." got a free upgrade to a room in a super high floor and right behind the fountains. it always pays to be kind.

I gave them $100 at cosmo but then they charged me for the upgrade at the end! I had to dispute it with my host but never again!😤

I asked very politely at the Cosmopolitan. We were on a floor in the teens and I asked if there was anything available a little higher. He wasn’t sure, and I mentioned that I hadn’t been to Vegas in a very long time and was so excited to be staying there. He got us to the 29th floor. We had a beautiful suite with a fountain view. The hotel was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What if you intend the tip specific to the upgrade and they can’t? Then you’re just out the $$?

Checked in last Saturday at Fontainebleau and maybe 3 people where ahead of me in line and it took maybe 10min. They upgraded our room & let us check in around 2. Best resort in Vegas 💯

Vegas is already so full of BS add-on fees and now we have to bribe employees to give us a decent room?

I’ve done this the last 3x I’ve stayed at Venetian/Palazzo over the past two years: a $20 tip got me a higher floor + Sphere view which should have cost me at least an extra $65/night ✌🏽

An upgrade is never guaranteed and they are very likely to keep your tip whether they can or not. Keep that in mind. Understand this is not a sure thing.

My husband always slides a $20 at Planet Hollywood and we get upgraded every time. Always put in a room with a great view. And when we went for my birthday they even upgraded us to a suite

So let’s say they help 20 ppl checkin a day. And multiply that by the smallest amount u mentioned. Thats $400 plus their wages They’re making between 6-700 a day.

Once I stayed at Hotel 32 (top floor of the Monte Carlo) and took a promo offer where I paid 50 a night for an upgrade. There was a mixup, and I ended getting the 2 bedroom penthouse 😅
