@artem_pankovich: 2.0 Tdi EA288 Rebuild Prep - Part 1: Teardown. • In this video, we begin the complete teardown of a 2.0 TDI EA288 engine, removed from a 2019 Volkswagen Crafter (second generation). Earlier diagnostics revealed serious issues: engine misfire, lack of power, and continuous coolant loss. Further inspection confirmed a failed EGR heat exchanger, allowing coolant to enter the intake system and then the combustion chamber, resulting in hydrolock and loss of compression in cylinder two. • This episode shows the first stage of preparation for a full engine rebuild. We remove all auxiliary components, dismantle the timing belt drive, disassemble the upper part of the engine, and remove the cylinder head. After that, we compare piston protrusion heights to confirm internal damage and bent connecting rod symptoms. The teardown continues with the lower engine section, including oil pan removal, oil pump removal, and extraction of the crankshaft together with the piston and connecting rod assembly. • Special attention is given to important technical details such as the tapered and keyed mounting of the high-pressure fuel pump gear, the need for a special puller, and proper crankshaft locking tools when loosening the central bolt.
