Based on the Bolivian legend of El Tío, El Tío amplifies the dark emotions within people through song, causing them to destroy one another. A deaf boy appears as the only one who is not corrupted by that song. After the adults leave, the boy sings the meaningless sound “la la la,” calming El Tío and rendering evil powerless. This story speaks about the freedom to not respond to every violent voice and the importance of self-protection. You do not have to react to every sound. You do not have to understand every anger. The one who does not listen is the one who remains until the end.
