@downtoinvest: How to choose investments in your brokerage account 👇 If you are investing in a taxable brokerage account, these are the things you should think about before you hit buy. 1️⃣ Every move in your brokerage account can have a tax impact. Selling for a profit means capital gains taxes, even if you reinvest. 2️⃣ Dividends in a brokerage account are taxed in the year you receive them. Yes even if you leave the money invested. 3️⃣ Your investments should match your goal and time frame. Short term money and long term investing should not be invested the same way. A brokerage account gives you flexibility, but it is not tax free. What you invest in matters just as much as how much you invest. Save this for later before picking your next investment. Wait I’m confused, so once I invest I have to use my gains? My money?? Or can just leave it there?

Roth IRA = 70% VOO, 30% SCHD. Brokerage = 55% VOO, 20% QQQ, 20% SCHD, 5% Individual. Thoughts?

My plan as been. Anything that has dividend income is my 401k and Roth IRA and non dividend stock in my brokerage.

Ok so now I’m scared I’m doing this wrong. I’ve maxed out my Roth IRA and do that first. But I have a brokerage. Account as well. Right now I’m investing in DGRO. I don’t have a plan to use it for anything. 😅 BUT…I am 50 and wanted to start maybe investing in a way that could create some funds outside of that Roth. Is it bad to leave them alone for like 5 or so years before pulling any earnings out? Or are you saying I’ll get taxed each year I have gains sitting there? I have it set up to auto reinvest.

I will add to my brokerage account even though I have not maxed out my Roth just so I have liquidity and easy access to money if needed.

What’s your opinion on automated investing accounts that chose your investments for you depending on your risk level as opposed to other investing accounts where you build your own portfolio chosing the stocks/etfs?
