P0420 is 90% not the sensor, correct. but the code could be a faulty sensor, air leak, purge valve, exhaust leak. O2 Sensor detacts oxygen after combustion and adjusts accordingly using pre cat O2 sensor. very rare sensor 2 fault or cat fault

every time I've seen this code it's the cat or a small crack in the side found a small leak with a smoke machine on one car fixed the crack all good couldn't hear an exhaust blow so do check with a smoke machine

Mass Airflow sensor that’s dirty can throw up this code too. Had it several times on Toyotas.
