Tips ARE getting out of hand, but I will say that the takeout ones at sit down restaurants are very valid. It’s not like fast food where you get a set wage. You still get the server wages and work on tips. The person is back there assembling your plates, fixing your sides and sauces, making sure the food is cooked right (visually of course), preparing entrees like chips and salsa, putting all of the food in your bag, taking the food to your vehicle (or being there to arrange pickup for you), and are taking the phone orders. It is a lot of work. Personally I was never offended if someone asked my pay before they did a tip. Every time I told someone I made server wages they were shocked. I will say it’s very different for fast food as they get paid regular wages. If I order take out I always just at least tip 15% at places that if I was to sit down and eat I would be served. Those places usually pay their ToGo employees the same. I’m not judging at all, but I just wanted to put that out there for people who didn’t know. 😊

Hey so I’m a bartender and server I agree with this! 😅 Starbucks literally gets healthcare why am I tipping you and like $20 an hour 😭 I will tip in a tip jar for a small business though
