@quant_abbad: Welcome to Day 4. Today’s puzzle is a classic from the Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley interview vaults. It’s designed to test one thing: Can you find a solution when the primary data source is hidden? You are standing in a hallway with three light switches. Behind a heavy, soundproof door is a room with three incandescent lightbulbs. You can flip the switches as many times as you want, but once you open that door, you cannot touch the switches again. You have to identify exactly which switch controls which bulb. Most people think in Binary. Switch Up = Light On. Switch Down = Light Off. The problem? You have three bulbs but only two visual states (On/Off). If you just walk in, you can identify one bulb, but you’re left with a 50/50 guess for the other two. In the world of high-stakes finance, a 50/50 guess is a failure. To solve this, you have to look for a Hidden Variable. Every action has a secondary effect. When electricity flows through a filament, it doesn't just create light, it creates heat. By turning Switch 1 ON for five minutes and then turning it OFF, you’ve "encoded" that bulb with a physical signature that persists even after the light is gone. 1. Turn Switch 1 ON for 5 minutes. 2. Turn Switch 1 OFF and flip Switch 2 ON. 3. Enter the room immediately. • The bulb that is ON is Switch 2. • The bulb that is OFF but HOT to the touch is Switch 1. • The bulb that is OFF and COLD is Switch 3. By introducing Temperature as a third dimension, you’ve turned a binary problem into a 3D solution with 100% certainty. 📈 In the markets, when price action is sideways, we look for "heat" in the volume or the order flow.
