You should always cover the grain with a casing layer! Those exposed grains will create contamination.

sadly I got into mycology and first batch was a AIO bag later found out they can take months before im able to break and shake... I was absolutely livid when I found out lol I still got it in the back but decided to use 90 min brown rice packets for spore germination and colonization

It should only take a week / week and a half . for grain to get colonized

If your Martha tent has a humidifier running to it I wouldn’t think you would need a top on the container no?

Anytime I get a stall like that I'll brake it up a bit and it usually finishes colonizing pretty quickly.
