@missy23232: The questions you ask in an interview say just as much about you as the answers you give. I asked, ‘From your perspective, what does success look like in the first 3–6 months for this role?’ and the recruiter chuckled before answering. It made me wonder, has this question become too cliché ?

I’ve asked what would be one characteristic that the perfect candidate for this role would have, and the recruiter said that everything was described in the role description 😅

I asked the hiring manager “what qualities have you seen in people who do well in this role?” She loved that question, I’ve been moved onto panel interviews, can I ask that question again or do I need to think of a new one? It’s a change management position

I asked the questions you advised. My interview was last Thursday. It’s Tuesday, haven’t heard anything yet but I hope I do. I did send a follow up after our interview thanking him for his time

I actually don't understand why people do this. Unless we are adding "candidate asked questions" to our interview scoresheet, how is it fair that candidates are silently scored on something that isn't technically scored as a competency, or whatever interview method is chosen.

I ask: is this position new or existing? What are the priorities over the first 30, 60, & 90 days for the successful candidate? How do you measure success for this role? And then I ask the panel what their favourite thing about working for this organization?

My biggest problem is that I expect to be faced with someone who’s actually good at hiring. Yet every time I’ve tried to act on advice like this, I realize how incompetent people are being employed. Being annoyed about questions and mostly not knowing about the position beyond some vague description..that always gets me

After you ask the question, they respond, then you relate your experience to their response, do you just basically give it a moment and then go directly into the next question you have or do you wait for them to say something else and ask if you have anymore questions before you go into the next question?

We talking questions to ask the recruiter or the hiring manager? The vid jumped between talking to a recruiter vs a hiring manager…. Because I find most recruiters can’t answer basic questions about the job that are not literally IN the text of the job description already. (Ok maybe benefits but they usually defer to HR later in process)

For anyone else, I always asked what do you love about working in this company? It tells me about their culture and how I can resonate with them. It also gives you rapport and being curios how its like working in this company. They can think that the culture an environment matters to you and not only the position or salary and then I will double it with yeah I love what you said I actually like to be with the company that blah blah :)

Hi! I’m curious what Qs do I go abt asking HR, not really the Hiring Manager, because it’s more technical role, so I feel they may not be equipped to answer the Qs you kinda mentioned

Nah. This is too much. Way too much to expect your candidates think about. Is this role for sales, strategy, law, PR, and csuite? Otherwise you are expecting a mindset that does not match the roles.
