The short answer is: Yes, potentially. Password-protecting a file (like a .ZIP or .RAR) encrypts its contents. Because a virus scanner doesn't have the password, it cannot "see" or scan the files inside that folder. Why this matters The "Blind Spot": If a malicious file is hidden inside a password-protected folder, your antivirus will usually flag the folder as "encrypted" or "unable to scan" rather than "safe." Common Tactic: Hackers often send malware in password-protected ZIP files and put the password in the body of the email. They do this specifically to bypass email filters and automated scanners. The Risk: The virus remains hidden until you manually extract it and run it. At that point, your real-time protection should catch it, but the initial "gatekeeper" scan was tricked.
