I say this as a Black Muslim, with sincerity and respect: we must be honest with ourselves. What happened was racism. In Algeria, bottles were thrown at a Black man. In Morocco, bananas were thrown at a Black man. Some claim he was attacked because he had his hand in his crotch or because he was filming Ultra members. But even if any of that were true, does that justify throwing bottles or harmful objects at him? These reasons don’t excuse violence. As Muslim countries, we have a responsibility to uphold Islam’s teachings restraint, wisdom, and dignity. If there was an issue, we should communicate, not harm. We cannot excuse what contradicts Islam. The Prophet ﷺ taught us: no Arab is superior to a non-Arab, no white over a Black, except by righteousness. What happened was wrong. Calling it out is accountability. May Allah guide us to justice and equality.
