@middle_teacher_syndrome: One thing we don’t talk about enough in education is how much better teachers get when they’re allowed to stay put. Same subject. Same grade. Same classroom culture. This video is my interactive notebooks over five years. Not because I’m nostalgic, but because you can literally see the growth. The clarity. The refinement. The confidence. That doesn’t happen when teachers are constantly pink slipped & moved into new rooms, new subjects, or new schools every single year. When teachers get to stay with their content, they hone their craft. They stop surviving and start improving. They take risks. They reflect. They build systems that actually work. Moving teachers around might solve a short-term scheduling problem, but it creates a long-term instructional one. If we want better teaching, we have to give teachers the stability to get really good at what they teach.
I have this conversation with someone at LEAST once a week. Let me stay put and get really good at one thing!!!!!

Yep, no one asks a plumber to become an electrician, no one asks a brain surgeon to become a heart surgeon. It’s okay to specialise and know your strengths

It should be required to keep first year teachers in same grade if they like it. I bet it would cause less burnout . 😵💫

If only they left us in the same grade level..so frustrating hearing, “you’re the stronger teacher so we know you can handle it”. No..and it’s not right for the kids every time they switch me.

This! I was moved to “increase test scores.” Moving me to a new grade level does not mean I’ll perform the way I do in the grade I know. So infuriating!

We have to teach 5 to 9 subjects in primary school here in Romania. I teach 4th grade now: nine different subjects! 📚🫣 Language, math, science, social studies, history, geography, arts, music, sports (different than PE).

My students laugh at my notebook because it is so thick and they can tell that it’s been well used because I keep adding to it every year instead of restarting.

28 years same school same grade. Almost an expert at second grade - behaviors, reading issues, enrichment. Let teachers stay in the same grade!

I saw another post of a teacher asking for tips of how to “do it all” within contract hours. Come to find out she’s had a new prep every year. 🙃 Of course you can’t master something if you’re starting over every year!
