@madstaples08: January 29th, 2025. The day my baby was diagnosed with leukemia. He had no symptoms. We were at his two year old well visit. His pediatrician routinely does a finger prick CBC at well visit appointments. His white blood cell count was almost 40,000. I was alone. My husband was out of town for work. I don’t even remember the drive to the hospital. I remember sitting in a cold emergency room for hours, holding my breath, praying they had made a mistake. That day changed everything. It split my life into before and after. Before I knew how fragile everything was. Before childhood cancer became our reality. Before fear lived so close to my heart. January 29th is the day my “after” began. It is the day that reshaped my future forever. The day I learned how strong a mother can be when she has no choice but to be. The day I learned that joy and grief can exist at the same time. I didn’t die that day.
