@storyofwealth: As the state has absorbed King as an exemplar of the liberal March of progress (think Ken Burns’ idea of “American”), we must remember that King was targeted from the jump by multiple state actors, and the narrative was such that he was an enemy of the state (a high honor!). He was a textbook example of the fear of communism, and the fear that the Black population would enact this revolution in the United States, and he was killed for it.
