Niels Matthijs :
I feel called out here! 😅 I agree that many have gone too far avoiding discomfort and are naive in believing it's something that is in any way realistic. He may also have a point for people who thrive on adventure and change, but that's not everyone. I appreciate a level of discomfort equal to a vaccine. You get just enough to train your defense system, without actually experiencing the illness. I don't mind a challenge, but it needs a purpose, and that's where it gets hard sometimes. On the topic of depression, I think it has more to do with the fact that most people still have peasant brains. Our world used to be towns, cities at most. Vacations were merely an escape from reality. Now we have the entire world at our fingertips, tailored to only show the highlights and the pits of hell. It used to be easier to be happy with what you had if you didn't know what else was out there. Now you see all the things out there, and your life looks bland in comparison. And if you have good things going on, there's enough people ready to make you feel guilty about it. Also, companies actively exploit that, making money off of people's anxieties and fears. So yeah, not sure if people weren't meant to live cosy lives, as that's most people's primary aspiration. But you do have to train your mental immune system if you want to achieve it 😁
