I definitely recommend the doggy stairs for the furniture if they’re allowed. That’s helped my Basshole a ton!

Congressman Leo Ryan had a reputation for personally investigating complaints raised by his community. His career was marked by an unusually hands on approach to oversight, from going undercover as a substitute teacher to investigate poor conditions in public schools to going undercover in a prison to investigate complaints about the mistreatment of inmates. In the late 1970s, families in California began contacting Ryan out of concern about the wellbeing of their relatives who had joined the Peoples Temple. The Peoples Temple was a religious movement founded by Jim Jones in the 1950s, built on promises of equality, racial integration, and a utopian community free from poverty and injustice. But by the mid 1970s, Jones was facing increasing scrutiny from journalists, ex-members, and U.S. authorities over allegations of abuse, fraud, and cult-like control. It was around this time Jones convinced hundreds of his followers to leave the United States and relocate to a remote settlement in Guyana, South America, called Jonestown. Concerned family members reported letters that sounded scripted, cut-off communication, and suspicions of abuse. In November 1978, Ryan assembled a small fact finding delegation that included staffers, journalists, and concerned relatives. Their goal was to visit Jonestown and determine whether Americans were being held against their will and to offer a way out for those who wanted to leave. At first, Jones staged a warm welcome. But cracks showed when several members quietly passed notes to Ryan’s team begging for help to escape. This confirmed suspicions that Jonestown was not the paradise Jones portrayed. As Ryan prepared to leave with about 15 defectors, Jones’s armed guards ambushed them. Ryan and four others were killed. That night, Jones ordered the mass poisoning that killed over 900 of his followers, including himself. Leo Ryan is the only congressman in U.S. History to be killed in the line of duty. His memory lives on as a hero of the people. #historytok #jonestown #History #historyfacts #darkhistory
