Worked at McDonald’s, often found myself covering people change from my own wallet or buying their meals or even paying for that extra item they asked for that i didn’t have the heart to say they couldn’t afford after they empty a crumbled 5 and a pound of change in my hand. One day i couldn’t afford it, homeless man asked for 4 different items on a 5$ bill. He seemed mentally behind. I didn’t tell him he could only get the 1 set of nuggets, I got the nuggets, snuck a drink from the back. A customer behind him seen everything and proceeded to buy him 5 mc chickens. I chased that man into the parking lot literally crying thanking him for what he did. I would gamble my job at every corner if it meant feeding someone or thanking someone for doing what I couldn’t. I didn’t care about stealing that Dr Pepper from the multi million corp or walking out to thank others or check on them. People stayed in the cold because they thought they were too dirty to come in the lobby so they stayed on the side walk, I told them I never minded sweeping the dried mud that came off their boots because it’s what I’m paid for. The world is miserable. Please remember not to contribute to it, because small acts of kindness are free, and larger ones have costs that can be more than worth it.

To the people complaining about the handshake, kids don’t know better and constantly put their hands on their faces and mouth and you don’t know what that man’s touched, completely reasonable, and as someone who was once homeless it’s completely reasonable. He already did more than most with the $20.
