yes! personally when I become a teacher anything political, religion and anything reproductive wise like fertility issues or pregnancy is none of their business even relationships like marriage or dating. students aren't friends their students if that makes sense.

Hi! Staff developer here! I do behavior trainings and special Ed trainings now! I totally agree 100%. When I coach a teacher I lean into being a “warm demander” and also making sure I model normal human flaws and emotions- but talking aloud through them! Many students don’t have that modeled to them. So I will say “ugh I forgot to make the copies th is morning! That was so silly of me.. how can I solve this problem! I feel so silly” etc. but I don’t ever think I need to show students 100% of me

60 year old teacher here and I’m glad to hear this from our younger teachers. Somewhere along the way, we quit believing that boundaries and routines provide a safe space for students. They do not need another friend-they need a teacher, advocate, encourager, and also a corrector. They need consistency and someone to be the adult in the room, while also letting them know they are valued in their learning community. Thank you for sharing.
