Hi Dr. A - both a nurse (with a psych/neuroscience undergrad) AND big fan of yours here …thank you for saying this. I have been on medication for my ADHD as well as insomnia for 8yrs and as good as the stimulants and Z drugs are: they don’t help nearly as well as if my diet was lacking protein/veggies/carbs as well as staying hydrated. Some people can’t get to the gym every day but I can’t stress enough how important a solid 15-30min walk outside does. Also shoutout to vitamin D+K as well as magnesium 🤙🏼

I love my daily walk, in bed by 9pm and daily fruits and veggies. It definitely helps my adhd and bipolar symptoms and makes my med side effects less intense 🥰

I do my best having bipolar disorder. The sleep sucks, but I still try good sleep hygiene. In shape, eat decent, but sleep is extremely difficult. Like I woke up now at like 1:45am and got out of bed restless, even on ambien. Also, just started PA school and prob wanna go into psych. Good advice!

I’m not on any meds yet, & I want to exercise so bad, but my physical symptoms won’t let me even move around enough to clean my house. My anxiety ( I feel like) is more in my body than in my head. What do you recommend? All my labs are normal, btw. ( my symptoms started at 3 months postpartum… my daughter is now 2 years old. I no longer get panic attacks, but my body is still stuck in fight or flight mode. Now instead of panic attacks, I get dizzy.)

Yes, that is so true. I went almost 3 months without like sleeping to the point where I was delirious and once I got onto antihistamine sleeping pill, my life changed completely. I feel like a new person.

Thank goodness! Focusing on the basics!!! And think about how schools are taking away gym and recess for children. We need to teach them that exercise helps our body and mind!

What about chronically ill people who can’t exercise? I was active my whole life, but since COVID I’ve developed post-viral illness affecting my nervous system, brain, hormones, and mobility. Exercise and many medications aren’t options for me—what tips exist for people with complex conditions like this?
