Ahh! Rag quilt was my first project too. I will say (and you can totally take this info and throw it right in the trash LOL) when I looked at the steps to this type of quilt, they usually make the middle batting about 1 inch smaller so it doesn’t come up into the fraying

Definitely do the batting an inch shorter than your squares ! Next quilt try strips!!! I just did one and it turned out so lovely!

I watched Tami Jones from Hometown Quilts and she clips after she’s sewn each row to the next. Says it goes faster. 🤷🏼♀️
