I saw someone apply to a programming job posting on Twitter, "Vibe coder here, reach out". Someone mocked them and said I bet you don't even know what O(log n) means and they replied "No, but Claude does". The audacity is certainly there already 😂

I am not a developer, but I have been running scripts and "playing" with code since before AI, and yes... now, instead of stackoverflow, I use AI. I don't think devs understand what the value of their job is. The value of a dev is their abitlity to design and formalize a system well enough to translate them into code. AI now does the translation. AI cannot and will never be able to formalize a project's requirements. It's the same with mathematics, the AI will never find the solution to a problem, but if you can write it in a formal version of natural language (which means you already solved it) the AI can translate it into a rigorous proof. "Vibe coding" only threatens your job if your job does not require an understanding of the problem you are solving or fixing, which I believe it does.

There’s fear of losing what devs have come to identify with—their coding skills. But there’s also just a lot of confusion. Someone will say I made an app with AI. Then you see it and realize that it’s not quite an “app” up to product/commercial standards, but really more of a prototype that surprisingly works, and yet may not be maintainable or have any further product roadmap.

It sort of blows my mind that people are confident enough in vibe coding to apply for your position. I come from a background in computational neuroscience, so coding is 100% necessary—but not on your scale. I don’t ever want to build software or apps, but I can’t visualize complex data structures without it. Thus, vibe coding has changed my world in a CRAZY way. Half of time it blows my mind—but the other half, I’m too suspicious to trust it—and I end up burning myself out questioning its optimization suggestions on things like multimodal 3D image registration. Since I’m still learning both, I’m also in a really weird position. I don’t know that I’ll ever publish a research paper again, because I’d basically have to cite CHAT as my first author. Me and chat. I also suck at science communication (anxiety), so it’s helped me vastly with learning—but it’s only confused me more about how to use it for communication WITHOUT feeling like a complete plagiarist.

For me I feel it has already started, since mid 2025 I started to have more trust in the ai models and the code they generate. I had already integrated the agents in my workplan and currently more than 60% of my code is AI generated. I feel our role as developers is slowly becoming passive, because most of the time I'm in code review of the ai code instead of writing the code myself. So my fear is soon this things will be writing 100% of the code, in maybe 3 years time what will be our role? Will they also take us out in the code review and orchestration too?

i was a traditional developer for 4 years, then started using chatgpt to debug / assist for 1. then vibe coding dropped. ngl its made me a better developer to plan / design projects with AI and fill in the blanks here and there, but when i tried to fully vibe code a production ready app recently it went so badly. i’ve shifted back towards being an AI assisted developer rather than a fully AI developer

thanks to AI ive learn how to code I dont "vive code" anymore but if I wouldn't have vived coded and absolutely obliterate my violin, I wouldn't have know how it is to make a somewhat good enough melody

its so obvious though.. if you are under 25 and studying code and not adapting to vibe, you are likely gonna be jobless very soon. thats how technology works, its man powered until we can figure out how to run it without the manual labour..

I've started forcing the vibe coders to take all the bug tickets. It's super fun, the company is going to go under because of it but at this point I don't fucking care. They will learn the hard way as customers stop using us because of the rate of unfixed bugs. We've gone from one of the most reliable products in our market to the least in a single year!

I was always into coding my whole life but it was always just frustrating to learn different syntaxes with my ADHD. But my coding logic is great. AI has helped me a lot to be honest and I'm very good at directing it to write the logic I want. Do you guys hate me for using it?

sw architect here. the vibe coding will not take senior dev jobs yet. but we will have to work with highly structured instructions so that the clog code adds to our abilities to code five times as fast. it will only be as good as the instructions given to it
