I have to disagree with this sentiment. I’ve had a lot of loss in my life and I just appreciate that people do say something. Honestly, I think most people are pretty anxious about saying the wrong thing and so stupid stuff comes out of their mouth unintentionally. It’s a terribly awkward situation for others and really no one knows what to do or say. What frustrates me more is those who say nothing -they don’t even acknowledge it. So even though ppl can say really annoying things I do appreciate that they are making the effort in some way.

Lost my dad at the fresh age of 24 when he was only 49, when older people would compare losing their 80/90 year old parents at their big age to my situation it would send me every time. At least you got a life with him Deborah! Equally hard, not the same.

I lost my Mom in 2018 and my Dad July 27, 2025. My MIL 2 months after he died said "You still have a mom and dad you know" No, I do not. You can't replace my parents.
