Personally I never really liked slabbing. I’ve slabbed maybe 5 books in my entire collection, and once I did, I realized I couldn’t actually handle them anymore. For me, comics are meant to be held, read and experienced, not sealed away.

As someone who grew up with comics and love comics. I enjoy both. Having a duplicate of my favorite comic covers that i have protected and can put on my walls. Plus if I ever truly wanted to I can just crack it open. It’s like a time capsule.

I’ve never been a comic reader, but I am a comic investor (not a flipper) in slabbed books because I appreciate the cultural significance and the slab has Been the most widely accepted way of freezing them in a moment of time. However, I do not like how the grading companies operate or the way they are slabbed. I’d prefer a nonprofit entity that relies on more eyes, transparency, and better archival casings.

The minute bags happened… then boards… this was the next likely progression. We as a community created intrinsic value the minute we started preserving comics to “stay as nice as possible”. I understand, but I do like graded comics. At the very least, my daily will have a clear and fair line when it comes to selling off my collection in the event I pass. Like it or not- that’s extremely valuable to me and gives me peace of mind. I like graded comics.

I slab some that are important to me. First appearance of MJ for instance because of that one panel and I’m a steward of its history and I slabbed to preserve it.

Comics Behind the Counter :
When PSA started selling their own slabs, that was a conflict of interest. Especially after that whole thing about offering buys at a certain level, then listing sales of the same items at higher level - which is what was being claimed out there. CGC has run up against a conflict type atmosphere by producing exclusive variants and selling high grade copies at conventions. But I don’t think they have been actively involved in secondary market sales. What are you seeing as a conflict of interest?
