Hopefully LSU getting second in jazz will help people see they don’t need crazy hard turn sets. Theirs was definitely not as difficult as the others in the top 5 and they nailed it! I’d rather see that any day.

I don’t totally understand the acro hate in so much of current dance commentary, in general. Acro seems to be an increasingly important part of a lot of dance routines it is being incorporated across styles. It doesn’t bother me. I think it seems like just the natural evolution of the art form. But maybe I’m wrong.

So I was talking about the acro to someone. So in competitive dance that my daughter is doing now- literally all dance genres are limited to 3 acro tricks unless it’s in open or acro and then you get to college and there are tons of acro tricks in jazz and hiphop. How do you make that switch from competitive dance and college dance if it’s soooooo different?

right? since when did dance become cheer and gymnastics? cheerleaders don't do a la seconds, so why are dancers doing so much across? cheer has stayed consistent, but dance has become too gymnastics and tricks focused.

Professional dance educator for 38 years here who also had three students compete this past weekend. I've been saying for a little while that they need to change the name and call it synchronized dance, and that way you could do this fusion of jazz lyrical and contemporary with the acro tricks and turns. But that's my opinion and in regards to the hip-hop we need to start being more respectful and culturally appropriate.
