My current vehicle, I got an approval from my credit union. I had a large trade in from my vehicle I had. I got a couple of rebates on my new vehicle and I was happy with the price. Went back to the finance guy. I flat out told him I was not buying anything extra before he started talking. He goes and tells me, by law, (yeah right), he has to go through extended warranty, gap insurance (which I didn’t need) and other pidally things. Wasted my time. Finally got to the bottom line with tax license and trade in. I then had to have my credit union cut me a check. Went the next day and picked up my new vehicle. The biggest thing that bothered me was his “by law” remark.

When I negotiating buying a new car, I always add I want to see the invoice, and they bring me the MSRP, no you seem to miss understoodd what I want to see. I want to the the invoice, not the MSRP. Boy, the looks you get. I know some items such as the destination fee is non-negotiable, but I'm not paying for your advertising fee and I just keep going down the list. plus I never ever discuss how much I want my payment target us or if I have a trade in and more!

🤦‍♂️.. then they sling the paper to a flat rate bank and make 6%… asking what the buy rate is, leads you into a huge trap!

So get your loan pre-approved from your credit union first.

That’s why I pay cash and say no to all the warranty BS. If you buy a Toyota, you don’t need a warranty.

The sales man adds a conveyance fee. Which is a fee for their pocket. It can be pretty hefty. When they tried to tell me that it's included in all their contracts. I got up and walked right out. Shortly after I got home I received a call from them saying they will take that fee off if I was still interested in purchasing the car. You have to play hard ball with them. Especially us females.

Rate is not where the majority of the profits is made in the finance office. Product is where finance makes the majority of the money. Most manufacturers special rate can not be marked up. Some states will not let you mark up the rate. The information you are spreading is based off of a very small percentage of car dealers. If you are going to try to educate buyers then educate them on what they are buying and what to look for in a Preowned vehicle. Tell them what’s really going to save them money is buying a car that has already been fully reconditioned so they are not spending thousands of dollars on recon in the first couple of months of ownership.

What he saying is the the finance company they are using is basically going to offer 4.99. The dealership will bump the rate to say 6.99. They will get paid the 2% difference. That’s why it’s always best to go in there with a preapproval from a bank or preferably credit union.
