Pika only got spayed because she bled for 20-22 days each time and had 2/2 false pregnancies with aggression and anxiety. After her spay, we can finally work on her fear reactivity but she has developed a way worse food aggression and extremely food obsessed with fresh food compared to when she was intact.

We are waiting on a vet behaviourist referral, we had spent a year trying to work on separation anxiety and then reactivity crept in to the point he no longer copes in the outside world and his separation anxiety has severely regressed. I’d be interested to hear what their view is and what possible course of treatment / training they suggest for us as our world has become so small now 😢

i did neuter my reactive dog because he had a lump so it wasn’t much of a choice however there’s been 0 changes apart from he now leaves my girl dogs alone🤣

Separation Anxiety Specialists :
I highly recommend speaking to a professional behaviourist about this before a conversation with a vet. Often vets aren’t actually aware of the link between castration and worsening of behaviours. There’s a variety of reasons as to why it might not be appropriate 🙏🙏

My anxious and reactive dog recently got the implant. This was for medical reasons as I never wanted to neuter him and my VB advised against it. He’s only 5 weeks in and not noticed any massive impacts yet 😬

All the behaviourists/ trainers i have seen have said my dog (a rescue) would have benefited from NOT being neutered. There are far too many unwanted puppies in the world, but its not black and white/ right for every dog

Solo Life & Money :
My boy is a rescue so neutering wasn't optional, but he was also crypto, so needed to be done for medical reasons anyway due to the risk of torsion and cancer. He only started being reactive when he hit adolescence (before I adopted him) but I was under no illusions that castration would help tbh. Absolutely no difference to his behaviour or personality after neutering specifically. I think chemical castration is a good option for many before committing to the op but tbh as I always adopt rescues, the chances are they will always be neutered as part of the process unless there's a medical reason why not.
