As someone who is half Swedish and half Mediterranean this is a real thing. Majority of my Swedish friends growing up did not offer food for me. I got asked to wait in the room while they eat, one time I sat at the table with her family and watched them eat. My mother is Swedish and she would NEVER do this, if there wasn’t enough food my mom would skip the meal so everyone else would have something to eat. That never happened tho because my mom makes food for days
