it might not be that they don't believe you can do it, but that they don't see why anyone would WANT to do that. becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon isn't exactly an easy life and a lot of people aren't cut out for it. they may just be expressing/projecting their own fear of doing something that hard

I think also part of it is a reflection of themselves. Them know that they couldn’t do that and projecting it onto you.

Hahaha almost everyone when I said I wanted to be a veterinarian. Their responses ranged from “you’ll just meet a boy and get pregnant” to “if you get into veterinary school, I’ll change my name to Madonna”. This is my 20th year practicing veterinary medicine. I got into veterinary school after 2 years of undergrad. Success is the biggest middle finger to all the doubters and haters.
