We don't use mattress protectors but we just have 2 bedsheets on. One to serve as protection and one normal one that we switch out more regularly

@Lon: You should try bamboo lyocell sheets they are processed using a closed-loop system using a non-toxic solvent. I get mines from www.Verleu.com they are hands down my go too sheets. They are also certified
