@magrietgroenewald: Ever wondered how that happens? It’s not bad budgeting. And it’s not lack of self control. Stores are carefully laid out to guide your eyes, your pace, and your decisions: • cheaper items placed lower • more profitable products at eye level • impulse buys on the long walk to the till By the time you reach checkout, your brain has already said yes, quietly, one item at a time. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And this isn’t just about shopping. It’s a powerful lesson in how people make buying decisions, in stores and online.

I can add to this. Worked quite a while in Trading. You know how you walk in a Shop and walk directly to your item? You know how it's so annoying when yiu reach the item and noticed it moved .... The reason we rearange shelves, is to force the Consumer to look around for your item. That way you might see more things you want to buy

BoujeeMom :
Brands pay for “rental space” so the eye level shelves usually charge more. Ie the manufacturer/brand will usually pay more for that shelf space as opposed to being at the bottom

Didn’t know you needed to study how shelves need to be packed. I guess it’s the science behind marketing 🔥

I did Retail Psychology afew years back and did they layouts of a few stores. People have no idea how the subconcious gets target; from the music in the store, to the cross merchandising to trigger impulse buying. Shelf talkers and flashers are also used to give the impression of value and savings.

Is there a reason for pick n Pay to change their shopping aisle and shelves every second day?

that's why I buy only what I want and I check all the prices to get the best value for my money. when they.say it's on sale ,I asked is it really a special or not remembering how much it costs before it went on sale and is the bigger packet of the item still cheaper or not than the item on sale.

It's like standing in Makro buying a TV and you can clearly see what brand agent paid to be on the floor that day.
