My dad made me cautious around him around the age of 10. And that’s when my childhood ended and my depression overtook my life.

Self protection keeps you safe, when you feel safe your self protection trigger is minimised pay attention to the situation you are in when the warning sign is triggered hugs x

You were never garbage, your therapist is right, that reaction is a self-defense mechanism that you would have learned over time. As far as where you learned it, pin pointing that may be a bit more difficult to figure out, though.

I’m so glad you see a therapist. I’ve been an advocate for years. I think we all need a therapist. Having a third person uninvested is such a treasure. I’ve been going for years. And of course you aren’t a piece of garbage. You are lovely, smart and adorable.

It’s a good question. These things start early and present themselves in our future interactions. Trust issues start in childhood and aren’t necessarily maliciously motivated. And our mistrust bleeds into our first contact with others. We often don’t realize it but we’ve made up our minds how the world is going to treat us. And so we protect ourselves by avoidance or confrontation.

It comes so naturally to many to negatively speak words about ourselves. I use to do that all the time. Others can say the words and they hurt, but when we start to say it, it hits deeper, and then it becomes this crazy sense of truth. To finally recognize this and see the lies we tell ourselves, is liberating. Speak peace, speak self love and forgiveness to ourselves. We are ok as we are. We are loved and we have purpose. Your journey reaches many who are walking the same path, or know what it's like to not live authentically. Your story about being a pastor and where life has taken you resonates with me. I'm not trans, but I know what it's like to not be accepted for who I am. I grew up in a very religious Pentecostal family, and felt judged everyday. It is refreshing to hear that God loves me as I am. I have felt this, but told the opposite. Keep living authentically and true to yourself. You are beautiful as you are, and will continue to be in your becoming. 🥰
