i love an eSIM but i’ve been burned too many times with the eSIM not working. Pocket wifi is strong and reliable.

Luggage forwarding is cash only, so is adding funds to your physical Suica card. Some taxis only take cash. Some temples and sites are cash only. You need cash!

Hey all, 1. Hubby used Suica app on iPhone. Son and I used a physical card. Only issue was hubby had to save battery at the end of long days to scan on to get back to our accommodation. Can be resolved if you carry a power bank though. 2. Ubigi eSim was great 10GB each lasted the 2 weeks. 3. We took backpacks instead of suitcases. These fit in the overhead storage on Shinkansens. 4. Not all places accept credit card on your phone. You may need your physical card on you. Hint: Wise cards are awesome. Have used them in multiple countries and gives very good currency exchange rates.

Narita is a GREAT way to start the Japan trip!! It’s a warm hug into Japanese culture. A cute city with a lovely main street and temples. The airport tour guides were fantastic and a fun way to explore while fighting jet lag.

I just went to Japan last year. The JR pass was not worth getting unless you planned on using it way more than most people actually would. I didn’t use a pocket Wi-Fi, but I did activate my second eSIM. I tried finding flights for hanada but Narita was always so much cheaper.

Jan 2026. Took 20 student with all our luggage on any train including bullet to Kyoto. Luggage can be stored in over head compartments or held at feet.

I freaking love Japan. I agree with everything in this video except I would reccomend using Klook instead of a JR pass (buying single tickets). It came out significantly cheaper and it wasn’t a mission and I was there for almost 3 weeks. I went to 4 destinations while there with my fiancé (including the 3 he mentioned). We had luggage that we needed to check in on the flight too. I just bought first class which is economical. Most phone carriers have an international plan too but I didn’t do research on the sim. Also, get a Suica card on your iPhone wallet too.
