The last dragon did twenty years after the Dance so about fifty odd years before Hedge knight. Interesting to think there are people still alive who remember them. That memory and the Dorne alliance is probably what is keeping them in power

One of the reasons I'm obsessed with this era in the timeline is it really feels like the first generation where the Dragons are little more than a memory in the minds of old men. The players here are the Grand, Great Grand, & Great Great Grand children of the CHILDREN of The Dance. The oldest remember tales of their power from those who lived through it, who saw or bear the scars of dragon flame. But those people's kids? Everyone after? Its all dusty history heard 3 or 4 or 5th hand that becomes less real or relevant with every year.
