I don’t think AI is going to replace engineers. I do think we’re going to have to get comfortable with raising our sights now that what used to take more time or be quasi impossible as an individual are now possible.

Frontend is so much more than position correction and just rendering stuff. It’s arguably way way easier to use AI on the backend and have it produce usable artifacts than to use LLMs on the frontend

Tbh it’s not really streamlining your workflow to tell it to move an icon in the frontend… it takes probably longer to type that in and wait for a response etc for that specific test case. Honestly for html or css it seems counterproductive. I understand for js/ts

Figma Ai can turn design to vue or js code then agents can scafold project structure ,do state management ,not to forget test suites so 90% stuff covered .rest 10% for engineers

just had a talk to my old mentor which was already in it when compilers got invented and people said they write better assembly than the compiler… fast forward Backend is just logic meanwhile frontend is a bit yeah… logic but interferring with web mechanics and design language its harder for AI to give you the right answer

If AI is always faster than you at positioning things / basic styling, then you’re not a good frontend dev. No shade to you, because you’re brand new. But prompting each change is literally so slow. I use AI A LOT for all my work, but no way is it replacing frontend. The only way AI would be faster than me for what you described is if it could scan the Figma and perfectly make all the changes in the code, which it can’t. If you don’t ask for a specific change, it’ll give junk. And if it’s a specific change, then I’m usually going to be faster just doing it myself.
