@hifortesa: Replying to @Landon Whole can AI remove the emoji from a photo and reveal the photo underneath? this rumor is so pervasive on the internet so obviously I had to ask some experts (and try it myself) to get to the bottom of it #ai #influencers #photos #journalist #new
so, if you can see more of the family members faces then AI can recreate the child's face based of the others in the photo

If that AI is coming into my house and taking the layered file 🤷🏼♀️

you can definitely put A face there but you can't see THE face there
AI isn't magic it's just fast and creative.

I just think there’s no reason to post the picture if you’re going to put an emoji over it. Just don’t post it.

hey so it's not AI that people are talking about. it's with certain photo/video editing softwares. if the person can download the original, they can remove the layer that has the emoji or the blur.

I legit put an emoji over it. Screenshot it. Put another emoji over it. Screenshot. Then post it with another emoji.

I think it would only be possible if the emoji was placed by photoshop and the meta data kept the original. Im assuming thats where the misconception comes from

I used to do art. Once you hit "save and export" as a PNG or JPEG or anything similar, it's all one layer. There is no underneath for an AI to reveal, it's all one sheet. It would need to be a specific type of format (I can't remember) to export the separate layers, but your phone assumes that when you do a quick edit that you want it as a PNG or JPEG.

The emoji is baked into the image. it replaces the pixels.

You absolutely can do it. There are companies that AI experts in the field that can absolutely do it maybe the average person can't put an expert absolutely can

The fact that people keep using AI and have literally no understanding of how it actually works, is just scary to me.

Yup. I am far from an expert, but I work in AI and this would have been my first assumption. Glad you got it confirmed!

I put the emoji on it then screenshot it. Then I only post the screenshot. Seems safer that way.

the only way you could remove it (that I know of) is if it was added in photoshop or a similar program as a separate layer. Then you would have to have access to the original file/or a copy of the image in a format that supported layers. which you wouldn't be able to get from a screenshot or by downloading the image off of someone's profile. And 99% of people aren't going into photoshop and adding emojis in separate layers anyway.

Don’t forget folks have been using the parent’s faces to determine the child’s face for decades.

Ai can’t, but there’s certain programs you can use to remove the overlay of the sticker. That’s why whenever I am going to post anything with an emoji or a sticker on it I place it and then I screenshot it so it’s all one picture again.

Some chat app has the ability to add stickers to photos inside their app and move them around. It’s NOT the same as editing and saving an image.

If you are still worried about it, you can always add one more step. Add the sticker over the person’s face in your photo edits on your phone (not in an app) and then screen shot that photo before posting.

Can AI remove emojis from kids' faces? ❌ Technically, no. 🎭 But it can use "Generative Fill" to draw a brand-new face that looks eerily real based on the rest of the photo. It’s not revealing a hidden layer; it’s a high-tech guess. Privacy on social media is getting a lot more complicated. 📱👀
