I see a lot of people saying "what's the issue with the middle name and being called that?" Most of the time people do not call a person by their middle name unless they specifically say they go by their middle name. It's common courtesy to call the person their first name unless told otherwise.

for the ppl confused in the comments its not the act of calling her by her middle name. its them asking the MIL to refer to her as her first name and not ONLY her middle name which she wont do. like theres a clear difference here ?

Nope! If anyone tried that with my son I would be pissed off. My daughter goes by her nickname mostly but because she prefers it now that she’s about to be 10, once my son is born people will refer to him by his name
