@austinwrites_: Even scientists don’t know what makes these rocks ring. Does anyone have any guesses? This place is a boulder field in Pennsylvania. One of two I’ve found in the state with these special ringing rocks. I love hiking here with my hammer and making natural music with them. It's probably phonolite which means "sounding stone" because it rings like that when hit. Devils Tower is also made of it.

I work granite and marble and stuff. The incredibly dense stones like quartzite ring like this. Also stones like black pearl and steel grey which have a high iron content
