The Great Lakes were supposedly formed by a giant beaver. They aren’t that old, and people were living in North America before the Great Lakes formed…

That One Time at Banned Camp :
We really need to pay more attention to the oral traditions of indigenous peoples, regard them as factual history. If British authorities hadn’t dismissed Inuit accounts, for instance, the fate of the Franklin expedition would’ve been resolved much earlier.

I love when oral stories become founded and creditable.

Navajo have an oral history about coyotes tale catching fire that historically yet unintentionally reference Yellowatones Mega Fire(s) I believe there was a 600000 year era of fires that separated animals and people. "Athabaskan" groups continued south and met Puebo Navajo Apache groups that were already here.

Because we depend on writing, and our own abilities have atrophied, we really underestimate how well pre-literate peoples passed down oral traditions.
