some charge around 3800 for parts and labor to replace timing chain, some just opt to not do it because of that

First you measure timing chain how much it has stretched. For Om651 engine the maximum allowed stretch under 250tkm driven is 82mm. If driven more than 250tkm the maximum allowed stretch is 84mm. This info is from mercedes.
