@todayshow: In a #TODAYShow exclusive, #ElizabethSmart shared that she began having conversations about her past with her children when they were old enough to start asking questions about it. Smart, who does advocacy work for survivors of sexual violence and child safety, started talking about what she does and why with her eldest daughter when she was three years old. "She started asking me questions, like, where was I going? What was I doing? Why was I doing it?" Smart continued, "I would say that opened the door to start having those conversations. And then just as they have grown, I have been able to let that conversation grow as well."

“When your kids start asking questions, that’s the right time” That was my parents’ viewpoint growing up, so they never hid the truth of the world when we got to the point of asking about it, granted in a kid friendly way. And as she pointed out, for my parents a lot of our questions started a lot sooner than they expected

What a beautiful family she has! I clearly remember this happening and I was a kid, that's when I realized a child could be taken. She is truly an amazing woman, and she continues to speak out all of these years later.
