My neighbors are also doing this with their first and fifth graders - these kids engage with ME every time I walk outside and it’s REFRESHING. They know my business, my comings and goings and I am so proud of them.

My sister in law does very limited screen time with our nephew and they read a lot. There is a drastic difference between our nephew and other kids his age. When we have kids I think I will be following her lead.

This! We’ve gotten so many compliments on how teachers can tell we talk with, read to and actively engage with our kids. We restrict what they’re allowed to watch and when (max 1hr on weekend mornings unless they’re sick). We’ve had long road trips (20+ hours without stopping to sleep for the adults) and managed it fine without iPads or other screens. Kids each have a type of lcd drawing tablet and a yoto player. We’re not anti-screens (both hubs and I are gamers), we’re just very restrictive.

yes! the difference is clear! we have a bunch of middle school boys that all ride bikes together and although I worry for their safety I am so happy to see them outside and with friends vs playing video games inside!

My kids have never had iPads or access to personal screens aside from one STEM game they get to play on occasion on my phone. We went totally screen free last week and ten minutes before seeing this they said “we have so many ideas now that we don’t watch tv”

Oh my goodness this is so sweet, my goal for my children. On special occasions (road trips) they ask if they can use our family iPad and my 7 year old daughter asked to write sentences on it in notes.
