@jeansthoughts: What can I say? I’m really not here for the incessant back and forth on certain topics and shaming of individual readers that booktok keeps falling into… so here is some practical advice and points to consider when discussing literacy, education, and reading critically. A huge thank you to the wonderful @IG/YT: ashunti_reads for unintentionally inspiring me to make this video aha. PS I love romance ♥️ 😂 #BookTok #reading #libraries
Quite a small thing but at our local literature festival you can pay a book forward that then gets passed on to children that might not ordinarily get brand new books.

Hi Jean! You’re the person who got me to pick up Tessa Dare, my first foray into historical romance! Thank you so much for introducing me to my favorite genre. ❤

100%, this keeps coming up as a tangent in my PhD and it's so vital we fight the systemic defunding and promote access to all sorts of books 👏

I’m a retired senior lecturer in creative writing. I completely agree with you about the state of HE. Our team felt completely unappreciated despite our amazing student satisfaction and how we encouraged them to understand what critical thinking was, and how they could apply it to their writing. All management wanted was ‘digital’ and ‘employability skills’, which is fine but a degree like CW has to be about passion and criticality. Anyway they closed us down because we didn’t fit their vision. They just want to churn out good citizens who don’t challenge the status quo.

Yes yes yes! I've worked in libraries for years and now I'm literally building an app to help people slow down and read classics (eventually other thigns as well) more thoughtfully because learning to read critically and having access to the humanities should be for everyone should be a given!
