DAY 11 — LINDSAY CLANCY TRIAL Today’s testimony left me with more questions than answers. We heard more about Lindsay’s mental-health treatment, the number of medications she was prescribed, the different providers involved in her care and, once again, what appears to have been a serious lack of communication between those providers. In this clip, we hear about Lindsay seeking treatment through Women & Infants. They attempted to contact her psychiatric provider regarding her care. Her provider testified that she never received that call, never spoke with them and did not later follow up with Women & Infants regarding Lindsay’s treatment plan. Could Lindsay’s care have been better coordinated? Absolutely. I also don’t question whether Lindsay Clancy was struggling with significant mental-health issues. At this point, I don’t know how anyone could. We’ve heard about severe anxiety, insomnia, intrusive thoughts, suicidal thoughts, extensive research into medications, numerous medication changes, different providers and eventually hospitalization. But mental illness is not automatically psychosis. And after 11 days of testimony, that is still the piece I am waiting for. What evidence establishes that Lindsay was experiencing psychosis on January 24, 2023, when she harmed her children? And if she was, what evidence establishes how that psychosis affected her understanding of what she was doing at the time? Maybe that evidence is still coming. I’m absolutely open to hearing it. But I don’t think we should work backward from the horrific outcome and assume that every symptom Lindsay experienced beforehand was evidence of psychosis simply because we now know what happened. And that brings me to another issue that keeps coming up during testimony about Lindsay’s providers: Should they have known she was capable of harming her children? Patrick knew Lindsay had experienced thoughts about harming the children. Yet the testimony we’ve heard has not shown that he reported those thoughts to her providers, and Lindsay continued to be left alone with the children. I am not saying that to blame Patrick for what Lindsay ultimately did. In fact, my point is almost the opposite. If her husband—who lived with her, saw her every day, knew how badly she was struggling and knew about those thoughts—didn’t believe she presented such an immediate danger that the children couldn’t safely be left alone with her, how were medical providers supposed to predict that she would ultimately do what she did when NONE of them weren’t even given that information? That’s an uncomfortable question, but I think it’s a fair one. Mortgage by day. True crime nerd by night. One pays the bills… the other feeds my curiosity. Both keep me up at night. 😂 #LindsayClancy #LindsayClancyTrial #TrueCrime #CourtroomCoverage #TrueCrimeDiscussion
