I would say this object consciousness is intensified for neurodivergent women who learn early that they have to mask to fit social and parental expectations.

if a man is perceiving me as an object, let's say he's staring at me out in public, is there anything I can do to stop it? I feel it draining energy out from me and I hate it.

I'm alwaysssss viewing myself from the outside and that's why I've craved and needed men's validation. I wasn't valuable unless a man thought I was worth looking at. I'm so sad for myself and other girls

I feel that shift when I'm around a bunch of men. I can feel myself being perceived as an object by them. It's palatable. And it is exhausting.

I think it was Margaret Atwood that said there’s always a man in my mind that’s watching me

One of the things I started doing just when I decentered men a while back is I no longer look at men in public I don't make eye contact. I don't look in their direction do anything with them so like if they're coming towards me, let's stay on the sidewalk or walking out of a storeand that's the only place I can look. I look straight through them like I look around them. I don't even acknowledge.

I became aware of this 2 years ago. I was living outside my body. I watched everything from the objective

Never in a million years :
I was never able to stop objectifying myself until I found accurate mirrors. basically I had to find people with the perceptual capacity to see me in my complexity. I couldn't cobble together all the objects of me until I was seen. obviously I know, and have always known I'm not an object, but that information didn't allow me to experience myself as whole even though I was.

And I noticed when I envisioned my life, I was watching from third person. I’ve been challenging myself to get into 1st person pov since I’ve realized this pattern.

Realized this at a silent meditation retreat. Everyone is turned inward, little if any eye contact. Zero obligation to interact. And yet I was constantly assessing my impact on others. Wondering what they thought of whatever I was doing. I saw how this took me out of my own experience. I can never know what someone else is thinking… I’m just trying to figure out my own! My mantra became: Know your own mind. That was the start of learning to live authentically.

this explaination is so much more useful than "you have low self esteem."

Oooooof this one is a huge one for me Kristen. I’ve worked on it a lot. In my industry this is a much harder one for women in my business BUT sovereignty has been the KEY to breaking it

This is very interesting! The social contract has always required self monitoring, but I imagine our modern era (social media) is what tipped it into unsafe territory. Even when alone and scrolling, we are comparing ourselves to online personas.

As an artist, this has always been such an hard experience that I limbo inbetween. To be an artist, to make art is to be perceived. I know this is why SO many artist and creative ls greatly struggle.

What about when you’ve been raised to be a tool - just an object or servant to make every else’s life easier. Where your own wants and needs are seen as extreme selfishness. To the point you don’t even know your wants and needs and immediately sacrifice to others without a thought to the harm or detriment to yourself?
