@ownyourbosshq: When a team member refuses to follow a clear instruction, many managers hesitate and authority slips. This video gives a clear, three-step framework for responding calmly, firmly, and without escalating. Save this for the moment it happens.
typical manger response, how about instead of been a manger and focus on been a leader.

This is horrific advice. No manager should choose to be a dictator. You've just told them their opinion is not valid and you have just been successful in creating a hostile working environment. Find the root cause and then get them back on side.

If you want to forget your employees are human. Staff work better and are more loyal when the feel part of a team. This is dictatorship, not good management.

Only if what you are asking them to do is actually their job. If you are asking them to do someone else’s job, which happens a-lot, you as a manager should be pushing the other person’s boss to have their team perform. Otherwise, you are not doing your job.

Nah, as a manager myself - when I place a task in front of anyone and they refuse (which doesn’t happen often) my first move is to Listen why? There could be a million reasons, including their health issues so, knowing that first is key.

The manager's not always right. I was asked to start coming in 10 mins early for no extra pay. Told them where to go.
