Used to go to a tiny Chinese buffet in high school often. The owner would teach my dad, brother, and I new phrases each time. Chinese new year she would give us chocolate coins in a red envelope. My dad would make baked goods and give to her and her family every Christmas. 🥰

My dad would always say hello and goodbye in Chinese to the owner of our local Chinese restaurant because we went pretty often. She started giving us free things after he wished her a happy (Chinese) new year in Chinese ❤️

My favorite wing shop owner in town is from Mississippi. I’m from North Carolina. We live near Chicago now and I go to his shop to hear what home sounds like. He says I sound like a memory when I walk in 😭

I feel like this is a safe place to share this story. During Covid one of my only treats was getting Vietnamese food every Friday from my favorite restaurant. After a few months, I realized I was visiting this restaurant more frequently than my friends and families houses so the next time I showed up, I had to bouquet of flowers to thank them for staying open. The next week when I went in, along with my order was a bouquet of flowers and a gift card for me. Sometimes the little gestures really turn out to be so special. The bouquet was more beautiful than anything I ever received from a boyfriend.
